The role of the coach

A coach is a role-model for those he/she coaches. Emphasis on three key "Rs"
  • Responsibility
  • Relationships
  • Respect
Looking more closely at these three, a coach takes over all responsibility for the content and way in which a coaching session is prepared and executed. A coach builds long-lasting relationship with his/her protégés. This involves trust, communication, discretion and ultimately mutual respect.

Do's

Be Prepared (see session plan)
Be on Time (junior practice is 18:45-20:15, seniors 18:45-20:45 - allow for preparation and set-up!)
Be Representative of what a Coach should be (appearance, diplomatic, )
Be Positive (NB all players regardless of ability have positives that can be promoted)
Encourage growth and maximise players' Potentials
Ask questions to promote self-learning

Don'ts

Single out individuals for criticism in front of a crowd (manage one-on-one)
Subject to physical, sexual, emotional abuse, nor bullying (we are a reporting club)
Extend players beyond their anatomical age (youth players need rest and rehydration).
Smoke, consume alcohol or other performance-enhancing substances while conducting a junior coaching session.
Watch language and discipline
Treat all the same - Remember all our youth have individual specific needs for coaching (technique, mental, physical etc)

Arcadians specifics

This season we will organise ourselves around four coaches per month responsible for Junior and Senior cricket.
This involves preparation, co-ordination with Marianne + other players.
Furthermore, it will need planning for equipment and match execution - see the planning below.
U13 and U15 will be broadly applied; we can't be 100% strict due to numbers.
