Match # 2006/20-FR
Friendly match (35-over match)
Domein Claeys-Bouüaert, Mariakerke

Result: GCC wins by 3 wickets
Toss: GCC
Arcadians player of the match: Yves T'Jampens (taking 1 wicket for 2 runs

The inappropriate appeal after the facts - in a friendly match - cannot take
away the wicket Yves fully deserved.)

Notes (1) Bowled or not? After Yves T'Jampens had bowled GCC captain Shehzad Malik with his fourth ball, GCC players interrupted play to argue that Yves could not bowl as he did not bat and was thus by default the 12th man man or substitute, and under Law 2.3. (Restrictions on the role of substitutes), "A substitute shall not be allowed to bat or bowl nor to act as wicket-keeper or as captain on the field of play." However, Arcadians were under the impression that this game (as most friendlies) was played under the agreement that "11 bat, 11 field", whereby Yves T'Jampens (who did not bat), replaced Gagan Singh (who batted but did not field at the start of the GCC innings). This is allowed under the very first rule in the book (Law 1.1, Number of players): "A match is played between two sides, each of eleven players, one of whom shall be captain. By agreement a match may be played between sides of more or less than eleven players, but not more than eleven players may field at any time." After discussion, the captains agreed to take Yves T'Jampens off, the remainder of his over being completed by Martin Gregson. Bizarrely, the runs scores of the first three balls stood, but the wicket taken did not. Considering that the general rule that "illegal balls" already bowled shall stand if the error is identified later on, and the fact that no ball was bowled again, the wicket taken should stand as well. (2) A true all-rounder Martin Gregson started the GCC innings as wicket keeper, but took off his pads to bowl in the 11th over. Nigel Stainwall kept wicket for the remainder of the innings. Martin thus completed a fine all-round performance with 26 runs, one catch as keeper, and bowling figures of one for 38 of 4.2 overs. (3) Most expensive over GCC keeper and opening batsman Ali scored 30 runs off Ahsan Habib's last over, the most expensive over in the Arcadians' club history: 6, 6, no run, 6, 6, 5 wides, 1
